The Annotate tab is for marking up an image you bring in — a micrograph, a screenshot, a photo of an apparatus. Add the arrows, labels, and highlights that turn a raw picture into a figure a reader can follow.
Annotation tools
Drop annotations directly onto the image:
- Arrows pointing at a feature
- Text labels and captions
- Callouts connecting a note to a spot
- Region boxes highlighting an area
- Circle labels for numbered points of interest
Everything is placed on top of the image, so the original picture is never altered.
Review comments on a shared figure
On a shared project, collaborators can leave review comments on a figure. Comments are a separate kind of mark from the annotations themselves, and permissions are checked per mark — a view-only collaborator can comment where allowed without being able to change the figure’s content. Comments update for everyone as they are added.
Clean exports
Review comments are stripped from every export path, so a comment marker never lands in your final PNG or PDF — only the real annotations you intended are exported. Insert the annotated image into your paper, or export it as a figure.
Tip: Opening an imported image from the gallery brings it straight back into Annotate, so you can adjust the markup later without re-importing.
