Comments let co-authors discuss the document in the document. A comment attaches to a specific selection, so feedback is anchored to the exact text it is about rather than floating in a separate thread.
Comment on a selection
Select the passage you want to discuss and add a comment. It anchors to that selection and shows as a thread in the comments panel, with the commented text highlighted in the document so it’s easy to find.
Threads, replies, and resolving
Each comment is a thread: reply to continue the discussion, and resolve it once the point is addressed. This keeps a review organised — open threads are the outstanding work, resolved ones are done.
@mentions
Type @ and pick a collaborator to mention them in a comment. The mention notifies that specific person, so you can direct a question at the co-author who needs to answer it rather than hoping they scroll past it.
Tip: Use comments for anything tied to a spot in the text, and chat for discussion that isn’t — like agreeing who takes which section.
