Beyond a flat list of results, Papers lets you follow the structure of the literature. The citation network shows how a paper connects to the work around it, so you can trace an idea backward to its roots and forward to who built on it.
What the network shows
Start from a paper and the network branches out to the work it cites and the work that cites it. Seeing those links laid out makes it easy to spot the foundational papers a field keeps returning to, and the recent work extending it, without opening a dozen tabs.
Navigate and expand
The network is interactive: click a connected paper to bring it into focus and expand its own connections, walking outward from your starting point. This is a fast way to build a reading list around a topic — you follow citations rather than guessing search terms.
Save as you go
Any paper in the network can be sent to your Reference Library, so an exploration session leaves you with the sources you’ll actually cite, already filed.
Note: The network draws on the same literature sources as search, so coverage of references and citing works depends on what those providers have indexed for a given paper.
