The Reference Library is Writano’s home for the papers you cite. Add a source once and it is available across all your projects, with its metadata, PDF, highlights, and notes kept together in one record.

Get references in

There are several ways to add a reference:

  • Search for it in the Papers view and save it
  • Import a PDF and let Writano extract the DOI and metadata on upload
  • Paste BibTeX directly, or drop in a .bib file

However it arrives, each reference becomes a card in your library holding its details, an optional attached PDF, and space for notes.

Browse and find

View your references as a grid or a list, and open any one for a detail panel with its full metadata and PDF. As the library grows, this detail view is where you check that a record is complete before you rely on it in a paper.

One library, every project

The library is not tied to a single document. A reference you file while writing one paper is there to cite in the next, so you build a personal store of sources over time rather than re-adding the same papers.

Tip: Import the PDF when you add a paper — the extracted DOI fills in the metadata, and you get a document to highlight and annotate later.
